โครงข่ายบริการสื่อสารร่วมระบบดิจิตอลใช้ตัวย่อว่า ISDN (อ่านว่า ไอเอสดีเอ็น) สายโทรศัพท์ ISDN ก็คือสายที่สามารถใช้ส่งข้อมูล ส่งคลื่นโทรทัศน์ และส่งคลื่นเสียง ได้ในสายเดียวกัน (ถ้าใช้สายชนิดนี้ คอมพิวเตอร์ไม่จำเป็นต้องใช้โมเด็ม)

ระบบห้องสมุดแบบบูรณาการ, Example:ระบบห้องสมุดแบบบูรณาการ เป็นระบบที่ทำงานร่วมกันระหว่างชุดโปรแกรมที่ประกอบด้วยโมดูลต่างๆ หรือระบบย่อยตามลักษณะงานพื้นฐานของห้องสมุด ได้แก่ งานพัฒนาทรัพยากรสารสนเทศ (Acquisition module) งานควบคุมสิ่งพิมพ์ต่อเนื่อง (Serial control) งานทำรายการทรัพทยากรสารสนเทศ (Cataloging module) การสืบค้นทางออนไลน์ (Online Public Access Catalog-OPAC) และงานบริการยืม-คืน (Circulation module) <p> <p>การทำงานที่สัมพันธ์ (โดยย่อ) เริ่มจาก <p> <p>1. การจัดหาทรัพยากรสารสนเทศ เช่น การจัดซื้อทรัพยากรสารสนเทศ นำรายการของทรัพยากรสารสนเทศ ข้อมูลของร้านค้าหนังสือ ข้อมูลของราคา (อัตราแลกเปลี่ยน) ข้อมูลของงบประมาณที่ได้รับสำหรับการจัดหา งานจัดหาทรัพยากรสารสนเทศสามารถควบคุมงบประมาณที่ได้รับจากการที่ระบบสามารถตัดยอดงบประมาณที่ได้ดำเนินการไปแล้ว สามารถติดต่อร้านค้าตามข้อมูลที่ลงไว้ในระบบ และลงรายการข้อมูลทางบรรณานุกรม (ตั้งต้น) ของทรัพยากรสารสนเทศ พร้อมสถานะของรายการนั้นๆ ว่าอยู่ในระหว่างการจัดซื้อ การส่งไปยังงานวิเคราะห์ทรัพยากรสารสนเทศ รายการต่างๆ แม้ว่าจะลงรายการทางบรรณานุกรม ยังไม่ครบถ้วน แต่ผู้ใช้สามารถสืบค้นและเห็นรายการดังกล่าว ผ่านโมดูล OPAC แต่สถานะจะเป็นตัวบ่งบอกว่าอยู่ในกระบวนการใด <p> <p>2. งานวิเคราะห์ทรัพยากรสารสนเทศ ดึงรายการทางบรรณานุกรมของทรัพยากรสารสนเทศที่ทางงานจัดหาทรัพยากรสารสนเทศ บันทึกไว้ในระบบ เพื่อลงรายการทางบรรณานุกรมตามหลักเกณฑ์การลงรายการทางบรรณานุกรมที่เครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์อ่านได้ (MARC) อย่างครบถ้วน ถูกต้อง พร้อมเปลี่ยนสถานะของรายการนั้นๆ เป็นให้บริการที่ชั้นหนังสือ (Check shelf available) และส่งทรัพยากรสารสนเทศที่ลงรายการทางบรรณานุกรมในระบบผ่านโมดูล Cataloging เรียบร้อยไปยังงานบริการเพื่อขึ้นชั้นให้บริการ รายการทางบรรณานุกรมที่ดำเนินการเสร็จเรียบร้อยแล้ว จะสามารถสืบค้นผ่านโมดูล OPAC <p> <p>3. ผู้ใช้สามารถสืบค้นรายการทรัพยากรสารสนเทศที่ต้องการใช้ผ่านโมดูล OPAC และนำมายืมผ่านโมดูล Circulation <p> <p>4. โมดูล Circulation อำนวยความสะดวกในการให้ยืม คืน จอง ต่ออายุ ทรัพยากรสารสนเทศ พร้อมทั้งคำนวณการปรับค่าหนังสือที่ค้างการคืน และพิมพ์ใบเสร็จรับเงินค่าปรับ <p> <p>5. ในส่วนของวารสาร ซึี่่งเป็นงานที่มีความซับซ้อนมาก จะมีโมดูล Serial control ในการบันทึกรายการวารสารที่เข้ามาแล้ว ต้องติดตามทวงถาม การเย็มเล่ม <p> <p>เริ่มมีการนำระบบห้องสมุดแบบบูรณาการมาใช้ให้ห้องสมุดตั้งแต่ ค.ศ. 1981 เมื่อ University of Florida ซื้อโปรแกรมสำเร็จรูปโนทิส (NOTIS-Northwestern Online Total Integrated System) เป็นครั้งแรก และหลังจากนั้นก็มีระบบห้องสมุดแบบบูรณาการเกิดขึ้นอีกมากมายและจำนวนห้องสมุดที่หันมาใช้ระบบดังกล่าวก็เพิ่มขึ้นทั่วโลก นับเป็นการเปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างมากสำหรับห้องสมุดในการเปลี่ยนจากระบบห้องสมุดแบบเดิม มาเป็นระบบห้องสมุดแบบบูรณาการ <p> <p>ระบบห้องสมุดแบบบูรณาการในปัจจุบัน มีทั้งเชิงพาณิชย์ และที่เป็นโปรแกรมโอเพนซอร์ส สำหรับโปรแกรมเชิงพาณิชย์ ได้แก่ อินโนแพค (INNOPAC) วีทีแอลเอส (VTLS) เป็นต้น แล้วแต่ความละเอียดของแต่ละโมดูลที่มีให้ และมีทั้งที่พัฒนาจากต่างประเทศและในประเทศไทย ส่วนโปรแกรมที่เป็นโอเพนซอร์ส ได้แก่ Koha, OpenBiblio เป็นต้น [บรรณารักษ์และสารสนเทศศาสตร์]
