ตราสารแห่งหนี้, Example:เป็นตราสารที่ออกโดยเจ้าของกิจการ รัฐวิสาหกิจ หรือรัฐบาล มีการจ่ายผลตอบแทนในรูปของดอกเบี้ยเป็นงวด ๆ พร้อมกับจ่ายเงินต้นให้แก่เจ้าของเงินเมื่อครบกำหนดที่ตกลงกันไว้ ซึ่งระยะเวลาครบกำหนดของตราสารหนี้ จะมีทั้งที่เป็นระยะสั้น (ไม่เกิน 1 ปี) ปานกลาง (1 ถึง 5 ปี) และระยะยาว(5 ปีขึ้นไป) ผู้ถือตราสารหนี้มีฐานะ เป็นเจ้าหนี้ของผู้ออกตราสาร เนื่องจากเป็นผู้ให้กิจการกู้ยืมไปลงทุน และผู้ลงทุน ที่มีฐานะเป็นเจ้าหนี้นั้นจะมีสิทธิเรียกร้องการชำระคืนเงินต้นก่อนผู้เป็นเจ้าของหรือ ผู้ถือหุ้นของกิจการ ในกรณีที่เลิกบริษัทหรือล้มละลาย การลงทุนในตราสารหนี้ก็ยังคงมีความเสี่ยง ถ้าหากว่ากิจการที่ออกตราสารนั้นมีปัญหาทางด้านการเงิน หรือล้มละลาย ไม่สามารถจ่ายคืนเงินต้นได้ทั้งหมด หรือหากตราสารหนี้มีมูลค่าเปลี่ยนแปลงลดลงเนื่องจากภาวะการซื้อขายในตลาดรอง ก็จะทำให้ผู้ลงทุนขาดทุนได้ ตัวอย่างตราสารหนี้ ได้แก่ ตั๋วเงินคลัง พันธบัตร ตั๋วสัญญาใช้เงิน ตั๋วแลกเงิน ใบสำคัญแสดงสิทธิที่จะซื้อหุ้นกู้ [ตลาดทุน]
