แป้นลูกศรเป็นแป้นพิมพ์พิเศษที่ใช้เพื่อการเลื่อนตัวชี้ตำแหน่ง (cursor) ให้ขึ้นลง หรือขยับไปทางซ้ายหรือ ขวาได้ แป้นลูกศรนี้มีอยู่ 4 แป้นและจะมีลูกศรเล็ก ๆ เป็นเครื่องหมายบ่งบอกทิศทางของการ เลี่อน (ซ้าย, ขวา, บน, ล่าง)

แป้นกำหนดหน้าที่หมายถึง แป้นพิเศษกลุ่ม หนึ่งที่มักจะถูกจัดไว้ให้อยู่แถวบน สุดของแป้นพิมพ์ (บางทีก็อยู่ ด้านซ้ายมือ) ปกติจะมีอยู่ราว ๆ 10-15 แป้น บนแป้นจะมีตัวอักษร F ตามด้วยเลขตั้งแต่ 1-15 (แล้วแต่ว่ามีกี่แป้น) แป้นเหล่านี้จะถูกกำหนด หน้าที่ เฉพาะ ให้ใช้แทนคำสั่งบางคำสั่งได้เลย เช่น ในระบบดอส แป้น F3 จะใช้แทนคำสั่ง copy ได้ เป็นต้น

modifier keys

แป้นดัดแปรหมายถึง แป้นอักขระบางแป้นที่ไม่ใช้ตามลำพังตัวเอง หรือถ้าใช้ ก็จะไม่มีผลอย่างใดเลย เช่น แป้น Ctrl, Shift, Alt แต่เมื่อกำหนดใช้ร่วมกับแป้นอักขระอื่นแล้ว จะก่อให้เกิดเป็นคำสั่งให้เครื่องปฏิบัติตามได้ เช่น ถ้ากดแป้น ALT+F จะเป็นการเรียกเมนู File ในระบบวินโดว์ ส่วนเครื่องแมคอินทอชจะมีแป้น Option ที่ทำหน้าที่คล้ายแป้น ALT เช่น ถ้ากดแป้น Option+C ก็จะเป็นการสั่งคัดลอก (copy)
