ทันตกรรมรากฟันเทียม, Example:<p>ทันตกรรมรากฟันเทียมเป็นวิธีการในการทดแทนรากฟันจริงตามธรรมชาติด้วยรากฟันเทียม โดยทันตแพทย์จะทำการฝังรากฟันเทียมลงบนกระดูกรองรับฟัน เพื่อเป็นฐานที่มั่นคงแก่ฟันที่จะใช้ทดแทนฟันที่สูญเสียไป ระบบทันตกรรมรากฟันเทียมที่มีใช้ในปัจจุบันทั่วโลกมีทั้งหมดประมาณ 100 ระบบ โดยระบบเกือบทั้งหมดซึ่งมีใช้อยู่ในปัจจุบันจะให้อายุการใช้งานรากฟันเทียมที่ยาวนาน การรักษาด้วยทันตกรรมรากฟันเทียมมีการเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างรวดเร็ว แต่มีช่วงหนึ่งอัตราการเพิ่มขึ้นได้ลดลงเล็กน้อยเนื่องจากวิกฤตเศรษฐกิจทั่วโลก เมื่อปีที่แล้วมีอัตราการเพิ่มขึ้นทั่วโลกถึง 20% วัสดุที่ถูกนำมาใช้ในการทำรากฟันเทียมมากที่สุดคือ ไทเทเนียม เนื่องจากได้รับการพิสูจน์แล้วว่าเป็นวัสดุที่เหมาะสมมากที่สุดในการนำมาเป็นรากฟันเทียม วัสดุใหม่ที่จะถูกนำมาใช้ทดแทนวัสดุเดิมควรจะได้รับการพิสูจน์ทางวิทยาศาสตร์ว่ามีคุณสมบัติที่ดีกว่า ปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อผลการรักษามีอยู่ 4 หลักใหญ่ๆ คือ ผู้ป่วย ทันตแพทย์ วิธีการรักษา และวัสดุ โดยทันตแพทย์และวิธีการรักษาเป็นปัจจัยที่มีความสำคัญมากที่สุดและปัจจัยที่มีความสำคัญรองลงมาคือ วัสดุ จะต้องถามผู้ป่วยเกี่ยวกับประวัติก่อนเสมอก่อนที่จะทำการรักษาโดยทันตกรรมรากฟันเทียมเป็นเรื่องสำคัญมากๆ เช่น มีผู้ป่วยด้วยโรคตับอักเสบ ซี ซึ่งอยู่ในระหว่างรอการปลูกถ่ายตับได้รับการถอนฟันโดยที่ทันตแพทย์ลืมสอบถามประวัติทำให้ต่อมาผู้ป่วยตายด้วยอาการเลือดออกอย่างรุนแรง ผู้ป่วยที่มีภาวะภูมิคุ้มกันบกพร่องและผู้ป่วยที่สูบบุหรี่เป็นผู้ป่วยที่ไม่เหมาะสมที่จะทำทันตกรรมรากฟันเทียม ผู้ที่สูบบุหรี่จะมีอัตราการทำทันตกรรมรากฟันเทียมที่ไม่ประสบความสำเร็จสูงกว่าผู้ที่ไม่สูบบุหรี่ ทันตแพทย์จะแนะนำให้ทำการปลูกกระดูก (Bone grafting) ก่อน ในกรณีที่โครงสร้างของกระดูกรองรับฟันของผู้ป่วยมีความสมบูรณ์และแข็งแรงไม่เพียงพอต่อการทำทันตกรรมรากฟันเทียม ปัจจุบันขั้นตอนการปลูกกระดูกมีความสำคัญมากขึ้นเนื่องจากผู้ป่วยส่วนใหญ่จะมีปริมาณกระดูกที่ไม่เพียงพอที่จะทำทันตกรรมรากฟันเทียม ในอดีตการปลูกกระดูกอาจจะเป็นเรื่องยากแต่ในปัจจุบันด้วยเทคโนโลยีที่ได้รับการพัฒนาทำให้การปลูกกระดูกมีขั้นตอนที่ไม่ยุ่งยากเพื่อให้ได้ขนาดและปริมาณตามที่ต้องการ <p> <p>เรียบเรียงจากการบรรยายพิเศษเรื่อง "Current Situation of Research and Development of Dental Implant and Bone Substitutes" โดย Professor Peter A.
