ระบบคอมพิวเตอร์หมายถึงเครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์หนึ่งเครื่อง หรือหนึ่งชุด ซึ่งประกอบด้วย 1. หน่วยรับข้อมูล (input unit) เช่น แป้นพิมพ์ 2. หน่วยประมวลผลกลาง (cetral processing unit) 3. หน่วยแสดงผล (output unit) เช่น จอภาพ เป็นต้น
ส่วนต่อประสานระบบคอมพิวเตอร์ขนาดเล็ก'ใช้ตัวย่อว่า SCSI (อ่านว่า สกัสซี) หมายถึงสายที่เชื่อมต่อระหว่างบริภัณฑ์รอบข้าง (peripheral equipment) เช่น ฮาร์ดดิสก์ (hard disk) เครื่องกราดภาพ (scanner) หน่วยบันทึก (disk drive) กับตัวซีพียู (CPU) เป็นต้น
