fuchsin

n. [ Named by the French inventor, from Fuchs a fox, the German equivalent of his own name, Renard. ] (Chem.) Aniline red; an artificial coal-tar dyestuff, of a metallic green color superficially, resembling cantharides, but when dissolved forming a brilliant dark red.
