ophite

n. [ L. ophites, Gr. 'ofi`ths (sc. &unr_;), a kind of marble spotted like a serpent: cf. F. ophite. ] (Min.) A greenish spotted porphyry, being a diabase whose pyroxene has been altered to uralite; -- first found in the Pyreness.
