[ Hind. pīpal, Skr. pippala. ] (Bot.) A sacred tree (Ficus religiosa) of the Buddhists, a kind of fig tree which attains great size and venerable age; it lacks the prop roots of the banyan. See Bo tree. [ Written also pippul tree, and pipal tree. ]
