Barbette \Bar*bette"\, n. [F. Cf. {Barbet}.] (Fort.)
A mound of earth or a platform in a fortification, on which
guns are mounted to fire over the parapet.

elevated so as to fire over the top of a parapet, and not
through embrasures.
