Several other trans men incarcerated in Texas and contacted by NBC News said they had encountered officers who required them to wear sports bras and women’s underwear, as well as to grow out their hair to longer than 2½ inches or risk “catching a case” — getting written up for breaking the rules. Advocates and former inmates claim trans men in the state don’t have routine access to boxer underwear and can’t buy chest binders. These are for those who haven’t had breast surgery to flatten their breasts.

“I’ve tried to request boxers and chest binders and was denied, which made my depression worse,”Angel Ochoa (49), is another transgender man in state prison. Asked to clarify the state’s position on clothing for transgender people, Hurst, the Criminal Justice Department spokesperson, said, “Inmates are to dress according to the sex assigned to them at birth.”

Ochoa claimed that he was raised as a tomboy and became a boy at age 12. He said that his family supported him from the beginning. “I was loved by my mom and grandmother and accepted as a boy.”

Ochoa, who was incarcerated in the 1990s, claimed that he faced humiliating and degrading treatment within the prison system.

“The most pressing issue is us being forced to be someone we are not,”He added that he was required to grow his hair when he entered prison. “They say it’s a ‘security precaution.’ … It’s just a way to hurt us.”

Data recently obtained through a Public Information Request shows that 980 transgender woman and 113 Transgender men were held in Criminal Justice Department custody in 2019. The Criminal Justice Department provided a policy document that states: “inmates are housed according to their genital status.”

The president of Trans Pride Initiative is Nell Gaither, a Texas-based non-profit group that was founded in 2011. Since then, it has reached over 1,000 transgender prisoners in Texas. Gaither stated that she has noticed that the Criminal Justice Department is less harsh in forcing transgender men to wear sports bras and grow their hair out in recent years. However, this shift in priorities and culture does not reflect a change of policy. She said that facial hair is still a problem because trans men continue to grow it. “can’t get enough razors to keep cleanshaven, then ‘get cases’ for having beards.”She stated that Covid-19 had a significant impact on trans prisoners because they were unable to access gender-affirming hormones.

However, the situation may vary from one state to another and even from one city to the next. In California state prisons, for example, trans men in women’s prisons can buy the same hygiene items available to people in men’s prisons and are provided with male clothing. However, they cannot purchase chest binders at a cost of $40 to $50. In Georgia state prisons, trans men in women’s facilities can shave their heads and grow out their beards, but, except for boxers, they are only able to obtain clothing from the female order form.

Ronnie Fuller, 42, is incarcerated at Georgia’s Arrendale State Prison in Alto, about an hour northeast of Atlanta. Fuller said that he identified as a male since he was young, but didn’t always know what these feelings meant.

“I didn’t know what ‘transgender’ was until I came to prison, and that was years within my sentence,”He stated.

Fuller has been in prison since 2004. The state forbid hormones to transgender individuals who have not been prescribed them. This policy changed in 2015.

“When the option became available here in the prison, I jumped on the opportunity,”Fuller spoke of the benefits of hormones.

He said that since then, other concessions have been made by the prison administration, such as allowing trans people to purchase boxers. He said that he and others still cannot get chest binders. He also stated that the prison refused to give them to a volunteer.

Correctional staff “give us male hormones, boxers and believe that is enough,”He added that being unable get a chest binder and gender-affirming surgeries has been a problem. “emotionally, mentally and physically.”

Fuller stated that prison was the worst place for a medical transition because of so many obstacles to accessing gender-affirming healthcare.

“I have experienced more judgment and discrimination behind these walls than I have ever experienced on the outside,”He wrote a letter.

Georgia Corrections Department didn’t respond to email and phone requests for comment.

“It shouldn’t be so difficult to receive normal treatment.”

Due to successful lawsuits across the country, transgender prisoners in America now have the right and ability to receive gender-affirming hormones regardless of whether they were prescribed them before being incarcerated. Advocates, prisoner rights lawyers, and former prisoners say that while these policies are written well, it is often difficult to get hormones in practice. Trans people in prison said it can take months to receive gender dysphoria diagnosis and be evaluated and monitored by endocrinologists. This results in long waiting times that can be distressing and confusing for those seeking treatment.

Graham was held in Texas Criminal Justice Department custody for six months before he was allowed to access the gender-affirming hormone treatment he had been receiving prior to his imprisonment. Graham provided prison records and Graham confirmed that Graham was there for six months. Fuller said similarly that although he was approved for hormone treatment in April 2017, it took him well over a whole year to receive his first appointment with an endocrinologist.

“It should not be so hard to get normal treatment, whatever that may be,”Fuller wrote in writing.

The U.S. has made efforts to ensure trans prisoners have access the gender-affirming hormones. However, most jurisdictions do not permit incarcerated persons meaningful access to the gender-affirming surgeries. Danny Waxwing, an attorney with Disability Rights Washington who has represented many trans prisoner in Washington, stated that while this is true, it hasn’t been enough. This means that trans men are not allowed to have top surgery throughout their sentences.

The Virginia Corrections Department was sued by Lambda Legal, a LGBTQ civil rights organization, in August on behalf of Jason Yoakam, a transgender prisoner. The suit, according to the group, was filed in August on behalf of Jason Yoakam, a transgender prisoner who is being denied treatment for gender dysphoria.

“Under the Eighth Amendment, prison systems are required to provide adequate medical care,”Richard Saenz is a senior lawyer and criminal justice and misconduct strategist at Lambda Legal. “This lawsuit is necessary because for a number of trans people behind bars, even those who are provided some care, [they] are often not provided adequate medical and mental health care.”

“All medically necessary treatment is available,”In August, a spokesperson for the Corrections Department told The Washington Post. “Treatment decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. In addition to medical treatment, individual and group therapy is also available. We follow the community standard of care.”The case is currently set for mediation.

A few states, including Washington and California have policies that allow transgender people to get gender-affirming surgeries while in prison. According to prisoners interviewed by NBC News the process for determining who qualifies for this procedure is flawed and inefficient.

Giovanni Gonzales from California, the prisoner, claimed that neither he nor his physician played any key role in determining his eligibility for top surgery. He said it was necessary because Gonzales has been suffering from severe depression. He said that instead, the decision is made in the hands of a committee responsible to evaluate trans prisoners throughout the state. The Corrections Department policy states that primary care providers at an institutional level are required to pass on requests for surgery, to the Gender Affirming Surgery Review Committee (statewide). The committee is comprised of mental and medical experts who have not been treated by the prisoner. They then vote on whether or not to approve or deny the request.

Gonzales and others were interviewed by NBC News. They expressed disappointment that the committee existed, because there is no parallel. individuals seeking to obtain treatment deemed medically necessary by their physicians — for example, people who need to have their breasts removed due to a cancer diagnosis.

“My doctors don’t have a say in my surgery. It’s these doctors that go on this committee that don’t have nothing to do with me,” Gonzales said.

Gonzales made an initial request for surgery in November 2018 with the help of his psychologist. A few months later, Gonzales received a denial and then filed a lawsuit claiming that the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation had violated his constitutional rights. His request for surgery was approved in February after more than two years since he had filed suit.

There is no’simple housing solution’

Out of the many obstacles they face in getting their preferred clothes, and receiving gender-affirming healthcare, trans men in jail also report difficulty with housing. As NBC News documented in an investigation last year, the vast majority of trans people in the U.S. are incarcerated in prisons that match their birth sexes or genitalia, rather than their gender identities, even though doing so without considering safety concerns or prisoners’ preferences is illegal under the Prison Rape Elimination Act. This reality has placed many trans women at risk of violence, harassment, and sexual assault.

El Sabrout of Black and Pink said that transgender men would not necessarily be safer if they were housed in men’s facilities, as opposed to being housed according to their sex assigned at birth. However, he added, that does not mean they do not experience physical or sexual violence in women’s prisons.

Graham stated that his unit’s women would get out of bed and crawl into Graham’s bed at nights to claim they were having sex with him.

According to him, prison staff failed to take necessary steps to ensure his safety. Staff members were alerted to a particular incident and he was kept in the prison for approximately 10 days. “safekeeping,”Protective custody is a type of isolation. Protective custody is often used to protect transgender people who are imprisoned. This is because they are more vulnerable to sexual assault than the general population. The conditions of protective custody mirror those found in disciplinary isolate. Graham claimed that Graham was kept in safekeeping and was only allowed to eat through a locked door. He also had limited access for showers or property. Graham claimed that he became tired after his third stint in safekeeping and resolved to never go back.

A second case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus has been detected in Minnesota, the state’s health department said Thursday.

According to the Minnesota Department of Health the person with this variant is an adult male living in Hennepin County. Officials with the department reported that he had been vaccinated approximately six months prior to his booster shot, which he received in early November.

On Nov. 22, he experienced mild symptoms, which have since been resolved.

The Minnesota Department of Health informed him that he was in New York City for the Anime NYC 2021 convention. It took place at the Javits Center from Nov. 19-21.

“Having a robust virus surveillance system in place allowed MDH to quickly identify omicron once it entered the state and made it more likely that Minnesota would be among the first states to find the variant,” the health department’s statement said.

Minnesota health officials have joined forces with New York health officials in an effort to identify who this man may have been in touch with. Officials from the Minnesota Health Department confirmed that the man had not been to other countries and that the transmission of the virus was most likely at the convention.

According to the Javits Center’s statement, visitors need to present proof of vaccination, and must wear masks indoors.

The statement stated that “We are working closely together with our government partners and industry partners to learn more regarding this case.”

The Minnesota man was at the New York Convention, so it is likely that the variant is spreading, Dr. Dave Chokshi, the health commissioner, said on Twitter. He urged attendees to get tested immediately and to social distancing and wear a mask.

Officials confirmed that one person, who was close to the man, tested positive for coronavirus via a rapid test in Minnesota. They said that the result is being investigated and that the person is currently in isolation.

Gov. Tim Walz stated that the “news is concerning but it isn’t surprising.”

He stated, “We know this virus is highly infectious” and that it moves fast around the globe.

California is the first known case of the Omicron variant in the U.S., the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Wednesday.

The California Department of Public Health and the San Francisco Department of Public Health confirmed the case in a traveler who returned from South Africa on Nov. 22 — three days before scientists The country had announced that they had identified the new variant.

California Governor Gavin Newsom said that the person, an adult younger than 50, in California developed symptoms just days after arriving in America. They were tested on November 28. Gavin Newsom stated this in a briefing on Wednesday. The Covid-19 test was positive on Monday, November 29.

The CDC released a statement saying that the individual was fully vaccinated with mild symptoms that are improving and was self-quarantining since testing positive.

Near contacts in the California case were subject to Covid testing and have not been found to be positive.

The fact that the patient had only mild symptoms, according to Dr. Mark Ghaly of the California Health and Human Services Agency, is testimony to the effectiveness of vaccinations.

“Vaccinations do a really essential thing: protect against serious disease, against hospitalization, and death,” he stated.

During a separate news conference, Dr. Grant Colfax of the San Francisco Department of Public Health said the patient had received two doses of the Moderna vaccine, but had not received a booster shot.

Wednesday’s White House news conference saw Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseasess, emphasize the importance of boosters and vaccines.

He stated that although the vaccines don’t target variants such a delta or omicron in the moment, the vaccines provide spillover protection.

“If you’re eligible for boosting, get boosted right now,” Fauci advised.

Newsom stated that the person with the omicron variation had received the Covid vaccine in the past six months and was therefore not eligible for a booster shot.

It is possible that the omicron variation may be more widely spread than the delta variant. The latter accounts for 99.9 per cent of Covid cases in America.

Scientists warn that omicron could be more deadly than other variants of the virus, which has already claimed more than 5,000,000 lives worldwide. It is not yet known how effective vaccines or treatments against this variant are.

According to the World Health Organization Monday that the global risk of the new variant is “very high.”

“Omicron’s very emergence is another reminder that although many of us might think we’re done with Covid-19, it’s not done with us,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a special session of the World Health Assembly.

The U.S. last week restricted travel from South Africa and seven neighboring countries. All passengers flying from these areas are now required by the CDC to give their names and contact information, even if they stay in the U.S.

On Thursday, President Joe Biden presented U.S. plans for combating the coronavirus through winter. His focus was on increasing existing Covid-19 processes, making testing more accessible, and encouraging vaccinations and booster shots.

Public health experts still recommend the following methods of Covid protection: booster vaccinations, wearing masks indoors, in crowded places, and continued physical distance.

Colfax of San Francisco stated Wednesday that no restrictions were being considered by the city.

It has been identified in the United Kingdom of the Netherlands, Italy Portugal, Germany and Belgium.

While health experts and world leaders are calling for people to be vaccinated immediately, there are some countries that are having difficulty inoculating their populations because they lack the access.

Jeffrey Epstein’s long-serving pilot testified Tuesday that the man he knew from his time as a pilot was able to recall meeting Ghislaine Maxiwell, who is being accused of sex trafficking.

Testifying at Maxwell’s trial in New York City, Larry Visoski said Epstein personally introduced him, on one of the flights, to the woman prosecutors are identifying via the pseudonym Jane and he remembered her “piercing blue eyes.”

But on cross-examination, he said he was not aware that she was underage and was not aware of any minors flying on Epstein’s private planes “without a parent.”

“She looked like a woman,”Visoski, who claimed that he worked for Epstein between 1991 and 2019, spoke of Jane.

Visoski returned to the stand on Day Two of Maxwell’s trial. Prosecutors have accused Visoski, a British socialite aged 59, of targeting young women who are vulnerable. “grooming”They will have sex with Epstein or other powerful men.

Maxwell, who is accused of helping Epstein abuse Jane and three others underage girls in the 1990s, is currently on trial. She has pleaded not guilty and denied all charges.

But Epstein’s flights became the focus of intense media scrutiny after it was discovered that former President Bill Clinton, Britain’s Prince Andrew, lawyer Alan Dershowitz and a host of other celebrities took trips on his planes.

Virginia Roberts Guiffre, an alleged Epstein victim who isn’t part of this case, has charged in a civil lawsuit that Maxwell trafficked her to Andrew when she was 17. The allegations have been denied by the British royal.

Visoski claimed that he also met Guiffre on one of the flights. “mid to late 90s”She was also unknown to him as to her age. He also said he never witnessed any sex on the planes he piloted to Epstein’s numerous luxurious homes.

“I didn’t know her age, she didn’t look young,”He testified. “She was a woman in my category.”

Visoski, when asked about well-known names that flew on Epstein’s planes mentioned Prince Andrew. He also listed Ohio Senator John Glenn and actors Kevin Spacey (and Chris Tucker), and Itzhak Perlman, the violinist. He claimed that Donald Trump was a repeat flier prior to becoming president.

Visoski said, “There were more than once.” “I do not recall any other person associated with Donald Trump.”

Trump once called Epstein “terrific” and told reporters in 2019 they had a 15-year-old fallout. He also said that he was not a fan.

Visoski said he frequently ran into Maxwell and testified that she oversaw Epstein’s households.

Asked about Maxwell and Epstein’s relationship, he said: “I thought it was more personal than business.”

According to authorities, a man was being evaluated at a hospital after being found in the landing gear compartment on Saturday morning at Miami International Airport.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers apprehended the 26-year old after he “attempted evade detection within the landing gear compartment” of an aircraft coming from Guatemala, the agency stated in a statement.

According to the agency, he was initially examined by emergency medical personnel before being sent to hospital for evaluation. The condition of the patient was not disclosed.

American Airlines stated in a statement that the incident occurred on flight 1182, which was flying from Guatemala City to Miami. Flight tracker Flight Aware reported that the flight lasted for 2 hours and 37 minutes. It also indicated that the aircraft involved was a Boeing 737-880.

According to the airline, the plane arrived in Miami at 10.06 am and was immediately met by law enforcement.

CBP stated that “Persons are taking extreme risk when they try and conceal themselves within confined spaces like an airplane.” “This incident is still under investigation.”

After arriving in Guatemala City on June 7, Vice President Kamala Harris warned potential migrants to “Do Not Come.” The United States will continue its enforcement of our laws and security at our border.

Her dissuasion of migrants was quickly criticised after President Joe Biden promised a more humanitarian policy for border security in the wake Trump’s hardline.

“It’s impossible to have it both ways — one cannot exclude and be welcoming at the same time,” Katie Adams, domestic policy advocate for the United Church of Christ, said the next day.

MIAMI — It’s a place to get some strong Cuban “cafecito” — and perhaps a glimpse of a celebrity or two.

Its customers have included Beyoncé and Jay-Z, as well as quite a few U.S. presidents: George W. Bush made a surprise visit for breakfast, Bill Clinton had a celebratory meal there and Donald Trump made an unexpected visit to the bakery in 2020.

“Whoever’s campaigning always comes by Versailles and has that picture in the ventanita (little window) drinking their Cuban coffee,”Nicole Valls, 39 years old, said that her grandfather opened Versailles, which has been instrumental in charting the growth and history Miami’s Cuban American community.

This month, Versailles will celebrate its 50th birthday. It was opened in 1971 by Felipe Valls Sr., who fled Cuba in 1960 after Castro’s Communist revolution.

Through the decades, the front of Versailles has become the gathering place for huge crowds during protests and rallies — and a place to tap the Cuban American community’s pulse. The most recent rally supported Cuban protestors during the historic demonstrations of July.

Versailles is still an important culinary destination for many Cuban Americans living in Florida, despite its long history.

“I like going because people are always talking about Cuba and I feel at home there, like a fish in water,”Rosita Gonzalez (68), a Miami resident, said that she came from Cuba in 1999.

Gonzalez welcomes anyone she knows from Cuba to her home and takes them to the restaurant. “People in Cuba have heard of Versailles so it’s a point of reference,” she said. “It’s showing them the soul of Miami.”

The interior of Versailles was designed by an uncle of Pitbull — yes, the famous rapper — who’s Cuban American. Named after the restaurant’s dining rooms that are decorated with mirrors and chandeliers like the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles in France, the name of the restaurant is derived from these fixtures.

“We used to run around this place,”Nicole Valls, who recalled the eatery as a play area for her sister and herself, said: “There are so many mirrors. It’s like a fun house. We would run to the cafeteria and get candies from the ladies.”

Valls, during a Friday interview, recalled the beginning years of the restaurant.

“It was smaller than it is now. It consisted of a ventanita, a sandwich counter and some tables,” she said. Valls helps run the business with her father, Felipe Valls Jr., and other relatives.

Her grandfather Felipe Sr., 88, still goes from time to time. An immigrant family success, the Valls own several Cuban restaurants, among them La Carreta, which is down the street. The grandfather got his start doing odd jobs in Miami, including washing dishes in restaurants. Then he began importing espresso machines, helping supermarkets and other businesses set up ventanitas, or pick-up windows — a new concept in Miami as Cubans began settling in the area.

Versailles was the first restaurant to have a ventanita, his granddaughter said. The concept is now a fixture in the city: Every day, there’s a crowd outside the service window sipping hot, Cuban coffee and munching on guava pastries, a Cuban and Caribbean staple.

In the last 50 years, Versailles has remodeled and expanded several times; it currently sits close to 400 people.

Charting history

The rallies outside the restaurant have long reflected the political and cultural history of the city’s Cuban Americans, whose growing numbers and economic clout paved the way for Miami to become a destination for many Latin Americans — as well as a growing international hub.

In 1999, thousands of Cuban Americans turned out in front of Versailles to protest the U.S. government’s decision in the international custody battle over Elián Gonzalez, a 5-year-old boy who was rescued from the ocean after his mother drowned while fleeing Cuba. The young boy was returned to Cuba at his father’s behest.

But the event that stands out most in Valls’ memory was the death of Fidel Castro in 2016. Years before, news outlets had begun reaching out to the restaurant to secure a spot outside, knowing it would be a crucial gathering spot when Castro died. Valls kept a binder in her car with a floor plan of Versailles and the surrounding parking lots that included assigned spots for news outlets, information on who would have access to the rooftop and where the security guards would be.

“I remember getting that call on the Friday after Thanksgiving. I drove over here, and ended up staying through the night,”Valls. “I remember on Saturday going up to the roof of Versailles and just looking down and you couldn’t see anything but people.”

“It was a surreal moment for me. It was a moment that so many people had been waiting for and this is where they came to celebrate,” she said. “This is like my second home, so it was an honor.”

A stop at Versailles is an essential part of political campaigning. In 1977, Bob Graham, a Democrat started this tradition. He took on different jobs as a candidate for governor. One of his jobs was that of a busboy at Versailles. Since then the campaign stops at the restaurant haven’t stopped. (Graham won.)

Trump, Bushes and Clinton were all present at Versailles. Mitt Romney and John McCain also visited. The visits weren’t always planned.

“I was at the office across the street. By the time they called me and I ran over they had already left,”Valls made comments about Trump’s visit in 2020. “He ordered croquetas and pastelitos and tipped the girls $100.”

Versailles claims to be “the most famous Cuban restaurant in the world.”

“I run into people I know and we talk about Cuba and reminisce about the old times,” said one longtime patron, Osorio Pérez González, 74, a Miami resident who came to the U.S. in 1980.

Valls said, “There’s nothing like Versailles, especially for Cubans.”

“This is sort of their ground zero,” she stated. “This is where everyone gathers whenever anything happens.”

Support for Jersey’s fishing industry has been extended to the end of the year amid disruption after the UK’s exit from the European Union.

The Fisheries Support Scheme assists with salaries and fixed costs.

About £120,000 was paid by Jersey’s government in the first phase between May and August.

The second phase up to 31 December has a cash pot of up to £400,000, said Jersey’s government.

Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture, Kirsten Morel, Deputy Kirsten, said it was “appropriate” that the fishing industry continues to be supported through these difficult times.

He said there was “continued uncertainty around access to Jersey waters, and Brexit-related barriers to Jersey’s long-established markets in Europe, and ongoing pressures on key stocks”.

After fishermen threatened to stop British boats entering the harbour, four French warships were stationed around St Malo.

They are annoyed at how many licenses Jersey and UK have granted fishermen based in France.

According to the French national fisheries commission, ferry traffic will be blocked at Calais, Ouistreham, and St Malo on Friday morning.

Israel will ban foreigners from entering its territory on Sunday. This is in response to the need for the world’s races to understand and control the Covid-19 variant that has emerged in southern Africa. To track down and locate the cases of the new variant of omicron, the government promised to use controversial phone tracking technology.

While no cases of the new variant have been detected in the United States, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, told NBC News that mutations displayed by omicron indicate that it may be highly transmissible and able to escape the body’s immune response, including the protection rendered by antibodies induced by the vaccines.

“You don’t want to frighten the American public but when something occurs that you need to take seriously, you take it seriously and you do whatever you can to mitigate against that,” Fauci said.

He stated, “If ever there was any reason for people not to get vaccinated, then for those who have, when it comes up, to go to and get a booster shot.”

Effective Monday, the United States has placed restrictions on travel to South Africa and seven other countries.

Fauci and other experts have confirmed that this variant is already in the U.S.

“It’s already here,” NBC News’ medical contributor Dr Kavita Patel said. “We know from previous variants that by the time we pick it up in Africa and the European Union, it’s already likely.”

Israel confirmed one case of the variant, and there are seven other suspected cases. Officials in Israel announced that they had banned foreign travelers from all nations and that quarantine would be enforced for Israelis arriving from outside Israel. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett stated that the ban would last for 14 days.

Bennett’s office also said that Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency, would activate cell phone monitoring in order to track and locate verified cases of the new variant.

The technology has been used on and off since the beginning of the pandemic, matching virus carriers’ locations against other mobile phones nearby to determine with whom they had come into contact. Earlier this year, Israel’s Supreme Court banned the government from sweeping use of mobile phone tracking of coronavirus carriers amid privacy concerns from civil rights groups.

The new variant is being contained by global measures as European countries introduce restrictions and curfews in response to a rise in coronavirus infections.

Omicron cases were discovered in Europe within days of the World Health Organization raising alarm about this new variant. They were found in Belgium, the U.K. and Italy as well as Australia, Israel, and Hong Kong.

Dutch health officials discovered 13 cases of omicron among passengers flying in from South Africa on Sunday. 61 had tested positive for Covid-19.

Two new cases have been confirmed in the U.K. after it suffered one of Europe’s worst epidemics. Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister, announced Saturday that all people arriving in the U.K. will be asked to take a second test. They must then self-isolate until they get a negative result. He stated that face coverings would be compulsory on public transport and in shops.

Many countries have placed travel bans on South Africa, and other countries in the region, with alarming results.

According to the South African Foreign Ministry, these measures “are similar to punishing South Africa because of its advanced genomic sequencing and ability to detect new variants faster.”

It added that “Excellent science should not be punished” in a statement.

The WHO cautioned countries against imposing travel restrictions too quickly and said that they should adopt a scientific, risk-based approach.

The weekend saw the world on high alert. Secretary of State Antony Blinken gave praise to South African scientists for “quick identification” and for their determination of the new variant. He also praised the South African government’s transparency in sharing the information, which he stated should be a model for others.

Omicron was reported for the first time in South Africa on Wednesday.

NFL standings for Week 12 AFC playoff photo

Who would you be?

1. Tennessee Titans (8-3), first place, AFC South. To cool off their strong control over the top seed, the Titans fell to a shock home loss to the Texans. They still have it with a win and an extra win over the Ravens. However, it is more fragile with the red hot Patriots coming up next. The Titans have important wins over the Chiefs, Bills. The schedule is still strong: .411

2. Baltimore Ravens (7-3), First Place, AFC North. The Ravens rallied without Lamar Jackson and Marquise Brown to survive in Chicago to maintain the lead in the division. They also put more pressure on losing Titans while staying ahead of the Patriots. They draw the Browns in Sunday’s game. The schedule is still strong: .603

3. Buffalo Bills (7-4), first place, AFC East. In Week 11, the Bills lost hard to the Colts in home. This was due to their run defense that let them down badly. Although the Patriots were in first place after the two-week meeting, the Patriots took the lead. However, the Bills gained momentum with a win over the Saints to start Week 12, based on a perfect record in division play. The schedule is still strong: .508

4. Kansas City Chiefs (7-4), first place, AFC West. The Chiefs won the Cowboys’ game and stayed because they lost to the Titans, Ravens, and Patriots. They also have the better conference record. It was important to continue being ahead of the Chargers with a win. In Week 12, the Chiefs will be granted a much-needed break. The schedule is still strong: .549

5. New England Patriots (7-4), 2nd place, AFC East. After ripping the Falcons in Week 11, the Patriots rose to wild-card status. Then, on Sunday, the Bills was upset by the Colts. However, the record books were evened out as of Thursday. The Patriots have a key game against the Titans before facing the Bills and those same Colts on the road after a Week 14 bye. They hold a 5-1 record in AFC play, losing only to the Dolphins. The schedule is still strong: .523

6. Cincinnati Bengals (6-4), second place, AFC North. The Bengals enjoyed a bye, with the rest of their division going 1-2-1. They then beat the Raiders easily to win it in Week 11. The Bengals are ahead of the Steelers, whom they play in Week 12 and beat earlier, and also jumped the Bills and Chargers, whom they host in Week 13, for because of conference tiebreakers. The schedule is still strong: .576

7. Los Angeles Chargers (6-4), second, AFC West.In Week 11, the Chargers defeated the Steelers to remain in playoff position, half-game ahead of the Chiefs in division. Justin Herbert gives them an opportunity every week while Brandon Staley is still on his coach-of-the year path. The schedule is still strong: .472

Who can go there?

8. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-4-1)
9. Indianapolis Colts (6-5)
10. Las Vegas Raiders (6-5)
11. Cleveland Browns (6-5)
12. Denver Broncos (5-5)

After Sunday’s loss to the Chargers, the Steelers lost this game. The Colts scored a major win to increase their pressure and keep ahead of the Browns. The Bengals beat the Raiders in Week 11, which helped create some more separation in the muddled middle, although the Raiders did rebound in Week 12 in Dallas. The Broncos currently have the standings against them.

Who is going to be the out?

13. Miami Dolphins (4-7)
14. Houston Texans (2-8).
15. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-8)
16. New York Jets (2-8)

After beating the Titans the Texans were able to draw even with the Jets (Jaguars) and Jets. The Dolphins also helped by defeating the Jets.

NFC playoff photo

Who would you be?

1. Arizona Cardinals (9-2), first place, NFC West. The Cardinals did their best to grind home an impressive road victory in Seattle once again without Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins. After the Packers’ loss to the Vikings in Week 11, they have already made a comeback. In Week 12, the Cardinals have a bye. The schedule is still strong: .430

2. Green Bay Packers (8-3), NFC North, first place. The Packers couldn’t win the back-and-forth thriller with the Vikings. This loss was more detrimental to their position in the NFC seeding competition for No. They are now at No. 1 with the Cardinals, Cowboys, and Buccaneers, despite their lead in the division at three games. They host a pivotal game against the Rams in Week 12. The schedule is still strong: .468

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-3), first place, NFC South. The Buccaneers used Week 12’s win over the Giants to push closer to the top seed with the Packers and Cowboys losing and also padded the division lead over the losing Saints, Panthers and Falcons. Tampa Bay needed the victory badly after losing two consecutive games around a bye with Tom Brady having rare interception woes. The schedule is still strong: .453

3. Dallas Cowboys (7-4), first place, NFC East. The Cowboys failed to stay ahead of the Packers by losing badly to the Chiefs in Week 12. They were ranked No. After the Buccaneers won, they dropped to No. 4. The Cowboys don’t need to worry about dropping down into the wild cards, because the division is a foregone conclusion with everyone else in the East still under .500. They were here despite their loss to the Raiders in Week 12. Schedule strength: .476

5. Los Angeles Rams (7-3), second place, NFC West. The Rams had a bye in Week 11 so they should like how several of the teams around them lost to gain some ground even when idle, save for the Cardinals, the team they are still chasing in the division and trail by two games. The Rams need to get back on track in Week 12 in Green Bay after recent bad losses to the Titans and 49ers. The schedule is still strong: .542

6. Minnesota Vikings (5-5), Second Place, NFC North. The Vikings have been playing better in close games. Their win over the Packers in Week 11 was massive and helped them get into the playoff race. Their explosive offense has been a major factor in their success, and Mike Zimmer is seeing more of the defense’s resiliency. In Week 12, they draw the 49ers. The schedule is still strong: .459

7. San Francisco 49ers (5-5), third place, NFC West. The 49ers will play the Vikings, with a chance of jumping up a key spot Sunday. They got there when the Saints lost to the Bills on Thursday night. The 49ers scored a crucial win early over the Eagles. This may prove to be a big advantage in tiebreakers. The schedule is still strong: .493

Who can go there?

8. Philadelphia Eagles (5-6)
9. Carolina Panthers (5-6)
10. New Orleans Saints (5-6)
11. Washington Football Team (4-6)
12. Atlanta Falcons (4-6).
13. Chicago Bears (4-7)
14. New York Giants (3-7).
15. Seattle Seahawks (3-7)

The Saints are in trouble due to their four-game losing streak. They also lost to both Eagles and Panthers. After their recent hot streak, the Eagles lost to the 49ers and should consider a wild card. As it tightened up their situation, the home loss to Washington by the Panthers was costly. The Giants flopped in a must-win game on Monday night. The Bears are almost out and the Seahawks’ streak with Russell Wilson is coming to an abrupt halt.

Who is going to be the out?

16. Detroit Lions (0-10-1)

After a Week 10 post-bye tie, the Lions lost again in frustrating fashion in Weeks 11. This was only made worse by their recent loss to the Bears at Thanksgiving in the teens.

The woven strap is vibrant and sporty, and other touches nod to the ocean itself, too. You can see the submarine hatch caseback as well as the subtle, wavey texture of the dial and strap. Both are great reminders to protect our oceans.

The Shinola Sea Creatures Detrola Collection’s first iteration is only the start. There will be four more colorways later in June.

The watch, which retails at $450 is a great value for money and can be worn both on and off the water.

Raiders complete comeback victory over Ravens in OT thriller

After a premature bench-clearing celebration and a couple of blunders that almost cost the Raiders the game, the party could finally begin for real after the first game with fans in Las Vegas.

Raiders win thrilling, exhausting season opener thanks a furious rally and stellar defensive play by Carl Nassib. A perfect play called that produced a 31 yard touchdown pass from Derek Carr from Zay Jones that gave Raiders a 33 to 27 victory over the Baltimore Ravens Monday night.

“Felt like a death and woke up. And died. Coach Jon Gruden stated that he woke up again. “I was like a cat — I had multiple lives.”

Carr was the engine behind three game-tying drives, the first being in the fourth quarter. He then won the game in wild overtime.

Carr appeared to win the game with a 33-yard touchdown pass to Bryan Edwards in overtime’s first possession. However, celebrations were halted by replays that showed the ball at the 1.

The Raiders lost the game because of an inept QB sneak, Alex Leatherwood’s false starting and then Willie Snead’s interception.

Nassib gave the strip sack to Lamar Jackson in his first game after he came out as gay to the NFL.

Nassib said, “I’m really happy we got we got to win on the day which kind of made some history.”

The Raiders then made another blunder by committing a delay of game before a field goal try, leading to Gruden sending the offense back on the field.

Carr sent a blitz, and Jones ran under Jones’ pass. This led to the Raiders flooding onto the field for another celebration.

Carr said, “I’m glad coach trusted me, put it in my hands at the end.” It’s always good to win, even when you lose.

The Raiders fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter, snapping a streak of 98 consecutive regular-season wins for the Ravens, which had been running at least 14 points ahead since 2004.

The Ravens lost their season opener after a string of injuries left them without top running backs J.K. Dobbins (Gus Edwards), and cornerback Marcus Peters.

Carr’s strong performance, averaging 435 yards, helped them lose the game. They had won their previous five openers by a score of 177 to 26.

After a thrilling fourth quarter, which saw the Raiders rally to tie the game three times, Carr drove Las Vegas to a tie 55-yard field goal in 37 seconds.

Jackson scrambled 28 yard to set up Justin Tucker’s 47-yard field goal.

Quinton Jefferson, the Raiders’ defensive back, had earlier forced Jackson into a fumble. This set up Josh Jacobs’ 15-yard TD run to tie the game at 17. After Jackson mismatched Sammy Watkins for a 49 yard pass, Latavius Murray, a former Raider, ran it in from 8yards. The Ravens responded.

Carr connected with Henry Ruggs III for a 37-yard pass. This set up a tying 10-yard TD for Darren Waller at 3:44.

Jackson’s TD pass from Jackson to Marquise brown in the first period was a remarkable individual effort. Jackson escaped the pressure of Yannick Ngakoue, Maxx Crosby, and eventually found Brown in the back end zone for a score of 10 yards.

NFL NextGen stats showed that Jackson took 7.84 seconds and rushed 27 yards to throw the TD.

Slow start

The Ravens went for it twice on fourth down in the first half, getting a 35-yard TD run from Ty’Son Williams on the first. K.J. got Murray stuffed. Wright won the second.

Jacobs ran a fourth-and-1 at the Ravens 13, stopping the Raiders in the third quarter.

After having sat most of their starters during the preseason, the Raiders started slow offensively. The Ravens had a promising start to the season, but a holding penalty and a missed snap ended it. It was then that the drive went backwards, ending in a punt.

The Raiders punted on their next three drives, making it the first time in 15 year that they have punted on all four of their drives.

They settled into a rhythm late in the second half, with a 75 yard drive that was capped off by Jacobs’ 2-yard run followed by Daniel Carlson’s 34 yard field goal. This made it 14-10 at break.

On Sunday, the Ravens will host Kansas City. Baltimore has lost four straight to Kansas City, including all three matches between Jackson and Patrick Mahomes.

Sunday’s game is between the Raiders and Pittsburgh.

Hiring Donald Trump as analyst shows novelty of celebrity fight cards wearing thin

This is a column by Morgan Campbell, who writes opinion for CBC Sports. For more information about CBC’s Opinion section, please see the FAQ.

Jim Lampley, who was the play-by/play voice of many classic boxing matches, revealed his limits when he claimed that Floyd Mayweather’s reign in boxing as the top draw helped create the political and social climate that allowed Donald Trump’s victory.

Lampley’s inability see the flaws in his argument suggests that he isn’t a good political scientist. However, he was smart enough quit his broadcast job to call last Saturday’s farce about a boxing match entre Nator Belfort et Evander Holyfield. He did this before the fight’s promoters had hired Trump as an analyst.

The bout saw Holyfield, aged 44, being beaten by Belfort in a one-round round. Two days later, the public relations company hired to handle the event announced it had stopped working with Triller, which was responsible for Saturday’s show.

EAG Sports Management will no longer be working with Triller or Triller Fighter Club EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY! Denise White, president of EAG, sent Monday’s memo to journalists. “Free to print that!”

We don’t know what prompted the sudden severing of ties, though it was possibly the false statements Triller officials scattered like seeds in the leadup to the fight. Triller told ESPN it was negotiating a commentary deal with former president Barack Obama; Obama’s camp told the New York Times that idea was false.

It might have been the intentional fogginess around whether Saturday’s main event was an exhibition, understandable between combatants with a combined age of 102, or an official fight, unconscionable given that Holyfield slurs his words and turns 59 next month.

Or maybe it was the putrid final product. Anderson Silva knocked out Tito Ortiz, a drunk puncher, in just one round of the co-feature. The ref stopped the fight with an annoyed expression that suggested he was being summoned to clean up the mess he didn’t make. Holyfield, a retired mixed-martial artist, was seen staggering about the ring. He has a history both of approved and illicit testosterone use.

It all unfolded while radical Trump supporters gathered in the live chat portion of the online broadcast to trade conspiracy theories about QAnon and Hunter Biden.

You could draft the slickest spin doctor on the planet, but you can’t repackage any of those details as anything but what they were — a two-word synonym for disaster that rhymes with “spit snow.”

We did come out of Saturday night with two positive outcomes. First, Holyfield left the ring on his feet — and not on a stretcher.

Holyfield, 59 years old, was unable to walk around the ring in his favor against Belfort. (Chandan Khanna/AFP via Getty Images)

Second, the card offered a clean break between The Sweet Science and what we’ve been seeing lately. We were able to see the limitations of novelty fights as long-term business strategies. The majority of boxers who are half-famous have already been in the sport for a while. Only the retired fighters who still want to risk their lives can look as slow and lazy as their former selves.

Triller has invested millions of dollars into a business that science and common sense both say isn’t sustainable. Saturday night showed how bad this could all turn out. From here, Triller can either pivot or risk getting some hobbyist or old-timer killed.

This is an easy decision for most people but not for Triller. Although it shouldn’t be difficult to make a change mid-stream, there are no guarantees. It’s not an outfit for sports. It’s a video sharing social media app, trailing TikTok by a wide margin in that category yet seeking ways to close the gap.

Triller cozied up to Trump when the then-president threatened to ban TikTok in the U.S. Before the company staged the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones exhibition last fall, its highest-profile users were right-wing American celebrities like Donald Trump Jr. It also bought Verzuz and partnered with Ice Cube’s Big3 basketball league. Verzuz gained popularity staging nostalgia-infused fights between old-school R&B and hip-hop acts.

And then there’s Triller Fight Club, whose previous instalments have included Tyson-Jones and YouTube star Jake Paul’s win over retired UFC fighter Ben Askren. Oscar De La Hoya and Belfort were supposed to be the main event on Saturday. Holyfield took over as De La Hoya’s replacement after he was diagnosed with COVID-19. When California officials decided not to host the fight they were wise to move the entire production to Florida.

Triller still didn’t have much to offer. Holyfield still has a mainstream presence, but Tyson isn’t as well-known as him. Tyson was at Saturday’s fight card and possibly sniffed for a bout. Belfort is not well-known outside of the mixed martial arts world, where he has been ineffective since the mid-2010s.

Triller summoned Trump to generate interest. This move tells you everything about the intended audience and where it may be heading. It was hoped that Trump fans would pay the same amount to hear their favorite ex-president, even if they didn’t want to watch them fight. This is a good plan considering Trump’s various ways of segregating his supporters from their cash.

A flag is held by supporters of Donald Trump, former U.S. president. (Chandan Khanna/AFP via Getty Images)

But if your strategy depends on squeezing money from Trump supporters, why do you even need boxing? You could just host a series Trump speeches for a pay-per view. You could also start a podcast subscription-only. Or, a premium cable channel that is 24/7, similar to the aquarium channel. This would have Trump reading The Art of the Deal, and Trump portraits montaged over it.

These would be more popular than fights between brittle retired men, which aren’t necessarily dangerous but have good taste and a high collective intelligence.

Alternative is to try and revive a franchise that’s just as defunct as the fighters Triller wants to feature. Holyfield became a professional the week after Ronald Reagan beat Walter Mondale. This is to say that he’s too old to fight competitively or for exhibition.

Tyson’s defeat on Saturday makes it less likely that he will rematch Holyfield, leaving Triller with Belfort. American sports fans can’t identify Belfort without a tag. While you can build a famous boxing franchise around someone other than a boxer, it’s not possible to do so with a celebrity like Belfort. The biggest name on the fight card was at ringside behind a microphone, calling the Brazilian Belfort a “great patriot” and griping about losing an election.

Attendance and gate revenue figures haven’t yet been published, so we might never know how many — or how few — people watched Saturday’s card. If you as a promoter need Donald Trump’s axe-grinding to make your fights sell, it might be time to give boxing up for those who love it.

This is a good plan considering Trump’s various ways of segregating his supporters from their cash.

Best Chicken Paprikash Recipe - How To Make Chicken Paprikash

Mike Garten

One of Hungary’s most well-known dishes, chicken paprikash is a delicious stew of chicken, peppers and onions in a rich, sour cream sauce seasoned with an ample amount of paprika. It’s best served over springy egg noodles to soak up all that flavor. Although our recipe calls for chicken breasts, legs and thighs can be used as well. Although the exact ingredients will vary depending on where they are from and what cultural traditions they come from, one thing is constant in authentic recipes: Hungarian-style paprika.

True Hungarian spice paprika is known for its sweet flavor and bright red color. In Hungary, there are eight varieties of this spice — made from dried and ground chiles and varying in pungency and heat — but the bright, mild kind most widely available in the U.S. is often labeled simply Hungarian Sweet Paprika. To get the best flavor, heat the oil gently and then stir in the sweet paprika. Keep it in a cool and dark place. Use it within six months.

If you suspect your paprika has been sitting in your pantry for longer than six months, it’s best to buy a new bottle for this recipe. Fresh paprika makes a huge difference to the overall flavor and brightness of this dish.

Not only is this dish a cozy, mouthwatering comfort food, but it’s also an easy one-skillet meal that takes about 35 minutes to prepare. It’s the perfect family dinner recipe or warming meal for chilly autumn nights.

Your horoscope for the week ahead: Expect incisive insights into relationships of all kinds

Over the past week the crescent Moon has been waxing and rising higher in the sky after sunset. This week will see the First Quarter Moon or half Moon in Sagittarius, which began as a thin, gondola-shaped symbol of hope.

Your hopes, dreams and wishes have been collected by our night luminary. She is shaping your dreams, hopes and desires as she grows in fullness throughout the Lunar Month.

On Monday and Tuesday, Neptune’s link to the Sun will create a spiritual, ethereal quality that makes it a great time to meditate. Mars will enter Libra, a clear-thinking sign on Tuesday. This will increase communication and intellectual reasoning.

This will provide you with insightful insights into relationships of any kind. It will make you more aware of yourself and allow you to ponder your future. Enjoy ideas that motivate you. Avoid thoughts that cause anxiety and fear. Your future is created by all those millions of thoughts running through your head. So be careful about what you let in.

The week closes on a happy note with the Moon passing near Jupiter, the Bringer Of Joy. This will help you keep your emotions energized. Your sense of humor should rule your weekend. Laughter can have a magical effect on your life, providing a buffer against potential problems. The Moon-Jupiter connection will give you a boost of energy, dynamism, and an abundance of luck.

Here’s your horoscope Monday, September 13th 2021.

Aries

Negative celestial influences are starting to wane. You’ve been dealing with a daunting and difficult situation for some time. It has been frustrating that you have failed to resolve it. Your initial problem is now gone. It will prove to be true that you have a prescient expectation of the future. Be true to yourself and not what others tell you. Unexpected information can prove you right and help you to win. Sagittarius’ First Quarter Moon asserts that events can be steered in your favor.

Taurus

We worry far too much about what other people think of us. Not only do we give too much attention to the opinions of our neighbours, our peers and our colleagues — we subtly allow our closer relationships to shape and sometimes restrict our behaviour. We don’t want to do things that our loved ones wouldn’t approve of or understand. Sometimes, however, it is necessary to explore territory they consider dangerous. The First Quarter Moon of Sagittarius can help you to resolve conflicts that touch on the issues above. You will find that everything is about to become happy.

Gemini

So often, we clear up one difficult emotional issue only to find another starting to arise. This time it is different. It is clear that something is moving and you need to maintain it. This doesn’t mean you have to exert more effort. It just requires serenity when faced with inconsistency or delay. Your most pressing concerns are calling for your attention. You are being surrounded by vultures, waiting to be answered. The First Quarter Moon in Sagittarius will bring relief from the pressure. New hope will inspire you.

Cancer

The current cosmic climate is putting you on edge. It is as if you have no choice but to face the hard facts. It’s a mix of fear and doubt regarding the challenge you are facing. It is quite stressful to be in the unknown. The First Quarter Moon of Sagittarius will help you get out from a rut. You will realize that you are too concerned about nothing. You have more power and potential than you realize, and there is more chance for success.  You have the chance to make it all right. All will be well if you are both realistic and pragmatic.

Leo

No matter how shrewd and experienced we are, we still make mistakes from time to time. We all make mistakes from time to time. We must make room for others and ourselves. The journey of life is always a learning experience. Don’t get mad at anyone or anything. Try to be calm this week. Ask a trusted friend to give you objective and good advice. Sagittarius’ New Moon indicates that success is about being open to innovative ideas. Don’t apologize for yourself — be proud.

Virgo

You like to feel that you are holding the steering wheel of your life. However, when you reach out for it now, it doesn’t seem to respond consistently. Although this may seem quite troubling, it does not have to be a problem. Trust what you know, believe in your most inspiring vision — and relax. Positive forces are there to help you navigate through terrain that you cannot plan. The First Quarter Moon of Sagittarius will help you get through any difficulties and take you where you want to go. Allow yourself to let go of fear and embrace the things you are grateful for, and magic will happen.

Libra

You don’t want to be unfair. You don’t want to cause any harm. You have goals you must achieve and promises you must keep. You do have freedom and the right to change certain practices or habits to meet current challenges. You must be sensitive but also respect others’ needs. You will be able to see a way forward with the First Quarter Moon in Sagittarius. You can overcome your doubts by looking at a situation more closely. You have a rare opportunity to release yourself from a burden that is consuming more of your strength than you realize.

Scorpio

With the First Quarter Moon in Sagittarius, you are starting to make some sense of what has been happening. You might even find things starting to calm down. It is possible to expect a temporary respite from the tension and uncertainty that has been affecting you recently. It is hard to tell if it will be a temporary relief or a permanent one. It doesn’t depend on what other people say or do, but what you feel inside. Pandora’s Box is now open and has revealed many interesting things. You can force it back in place if necessary, but you might just want to explore what else it has. This week, be open to new possibilities.

Sagittarius

Be careful that you don’t take the good things in life for granted. It is possible to have something in your hands, but you allow it to slip through your hands. You will find the answers to many of your questions with the First Quarter Moon in Sagittarius. These will make you wiser, richer, and healthier. You are part of a complex process that is taking place somewhere in your world. You’re doing something right and natural. Communicate your thoughts clearly. Trust others. It will all work out for you.

Capricorn

You can’t stop going around in circles completely, but you can at least decide to enjoy your ride on the merry-go-round. Sagittarius’ First Quarter Moon is a sign that acts of genuine compassion will yield positive results. However, actions motivated by self-preservation might not produce such positive results. Although you might feel vulnerable and exposed, you’re actually very safe. Recognize and nurture your strengths and use them generously for those in need. This week, a brave step will not cause your to fall. It will take you to solid ground.

Aquarius

The needs of a loved one or a close companion are causing you to expend a lot of energy and to make a lot of compromises. This is actually a good thing because it allows you to make long-overdue positive changes that are not possible on your own. You may forget your own needs if you try to please others. Do not let this happen. The First Quarter Moon in Sagittarius will guide you toward honouring your own preferences and priorities too. Your efforts will be a huge, positive impact on everyone involved.

Pisces

Life may be intense, exhausting and uncertain but it is only because something wonderful is going on. You’re in an enviable situation and are heading toward a highly desirable development. This is the same anxiety people experience before passing exams or winning competitions. It is based upon the fact that you are pretty certain about something even though you don’t have proof. Sagittarius’ First Quarter Moon is a sign that you are on to something good. It’s not good to be overconfident. It is better to be cautious. Don’t be afraid to embrace everything you are grateful for.

Why Channing Tatum's Met Gala Experience Exceeded His "Wildest Dreams" - E! Online

Channing Tatum is still on cloud nine after his magical evening at the 2021 Met Gala.

The Magic Mike 41-year-old star posted some photos to Instagram showing himself in Versace robes on Tuesday, September 14. The images showed that the colorful robe featured Channing’s name written on the back, meaning this look was a bit more casual than the classic Versace tuxedo he wore to Tuesday’s Met Gala.

In his caption, the actor gushed about his respect for the fashion house, along with its founder, the late Gianni Versace, and Gianni’s sister, Donatella Versace.

He described his early modeling days as a “so 20 years ago” (holy F-k). He said, “God only knows how many they saw.” I hope to be selected to walk in the spring show. Versace never allowed me to walk in their spring show. I was there for 6 to 7 seasons.

How to Introduce a Friend to the Outdoors

“],”renderIntial”:true,”wordCount”:350}”>

In my early twenties I was convinced that I’d never be lonely if I could make other people love the things I love, which is why I became a nature guide (and also a writer). Though I no longer believe this to be particularly true—I’ve moved on to other fallacies—I still consider it an incredible privilege when people trust me enough to lead them in something new outdoors. It’s also a role that comes with responsibility: how you introduce people to the outdoors plays a huge part in whether they feel comfortable, welcome, and like they belong. So let’s say your friend mentions that they’d like to try hiking—or camping, or kayaking, or any number of outdoorsy things that can be daunting to newbies—and asks if you’ll bring them along. Hooray! How can you make the experience positive? Here are some tips to help friends and family feel the outdoors might be right for them.

Over-Anticipate Physical Needs

Before you go, let your friend(s) know what to wear and why: “I’d bring long pants because of bugs, and we should wear hats and long-sleeve shirts.” If they don’t have the right equipment or clothing, lend them some or let them know where to get it. You should bring extra sunscreen, water and food. And if there’s a handy place to use the bathroom—or you’re about to go somewhere without a bathroom—let them know ahead of time. Many people are hesitant to state their needs, especially when it comes to bathroom issues. They may feel more comfortable asking questions or speaking up if you start the conversation.

Put Aside Your Own Expectations

Every trip should be tailored to the level of the person with the least experience (or the most limitations). That means asking what they’re up for, checking in throughout the day, and being open to changing plans. If there’s a cool waterfall up the trail that you’ve been dying to see, but your friend is tired, it’s time to turn around. If you wanted to go swimming in a lake but they’re psyched about watching herons from the shore, pull out your binoculars and join them, at least for a while. Odds are that the day won’t be quite like you expected, but with the right attitude, that’s an upside all around. Your friend had a great time, felt respected, while you got to see the place and activity that you love from a new perspective.

Clear the Plan Ahead of Time

Of course, as much as you might want to be flexible, many outdoor trips require some level of commitment. If you go backpacking, for instance, and someone decides they hate it, they can’t just snap their fingers and be done. The most important thing in these situations is to communicate beforehand, explaining everything so people can decide whether to take part or not. For instance: “Hey, if you come on this canoe trip, we’re going to be gone about six hours, and someone’s picking us up so we can’t really head back early. We’ll be in the sun the whole time, so we need to stay hydrated, and there won’t be bathrooms. Does that sound like something you want to do, or would you rather start with something shorter?” Someone could still get tired or nervous partway through—it happens to the best of us—but at least they’ll have made their own decision.

Give Them a Role

If someone’s a total newbie, then they’re already learning a ton just by being out there. If your friend is more experienced or has a desire to take on more responsibility, you could give them a task that they will perform throughout the trip. They might be responsible for navigating, cooking, and finding water. As they gain confidence and experience, they’ll be ready to take on more and more.

Distinguish Between Encouragement and Pressure

This one can seem tricky, because there are a lot of situations outdoors when people really appreciate encouragement—and there are also situations when it’s extremely annoying (or worse) to keep “encouraging” someone to do something they don’t want to do.

Unless you’re specifically averting an emergency, never put someone’s body in a situation they don’t want to be in. For instance, if you’re steering a boat, and they say “Don’t take us over there,” it’s super messed up to bring the boat (and their body) to the place they don’t want to go. If they’re riding your snowmobile, and ask you to please drive slowly, there is no world in which it’s funny to accelerate. If they’ve been standing at the edge of a cliff for an hour, trying to get up the nerve to jump into a river, do not give them a gentle push. Maybe you think that they’ll actually love the experience, and you’re trying to show them that. Maybe you think that you’re helping them. It doesn’t matter. You don’t have to do it. Don’t do it.

If you believe your friend will genuinely enjoy something they’re unsure about, just tell them. “I think if we take the boat over to those waves, you’ll have fun, and it’s very safe. You’re wearing a life jacket, and even if you fall out, the water is shallow enough to stand in. Do you want to give it a try?” Tell them what you think, and give the details. If they say no, respect their decision—cheerfully. They’re already pushing their comfort zone by coming out with you, and it’s vital to be a good steward of that trust.

If you’re ever in doubt about the line between encouragement and pressure, you can ask. “In all seriousness, do you want me to encourage you to [cliff jump/touch a bug/drive a dogsled]?” A nervous friend might really appreciate your cheerleading—as long as the choice is theirs.

Take Photos

It’s a not-so-secret among guides that they get better tips when they take lots of pictures for their guests. This is because everyone enjoys looking back at their adventure. But people can’t necessarily take great photos of themselves (or may feel awkward asking for them). Keep moving forward by taking lots of action shots and stopping at many photo stops along the way.

End on a Good Note

Fatigue can have a steep drop-off, meaning that someone can be having a great time, and then they get tired quickly, and continuing to do the activity at that point begins to feel like a chore or worse. If people are having fun, it is a good idea to leave on a positive note. Remember that even if the excursion felt simple to you, it’s a big deal to them—so send over the photos you took, and celebrate their accomplishment. And let them know that if they want to go out again, you’re there.

Brendan Morais, Pieper James Leave

Time to answer up! Brendan Morais and Pieper James were confronted about their pre-show relationship during the Tuesday, September 14, episode of Bachelor in Paradise.

Ahead of the rose ceremony, Natasha Parker rehashed what she knew about Brendan and Pieper dating before the show with Joe Amabile, Demi Burnett and more of her costars. The group decided that it was time for them to discover if Brendan and Pieper had really planned their relationship before they arrived in Paradise. Brendan insisted again that he and Pieper were not exclusive before filming and claimed he tried to advance his relationship with Natasha but didn’t have romantic feelings for her.

Brendan said that Pieper and he were able to spend more time on the beach to build their relationship than they would in real life. She said that the show allowed them to be completely focused on each other, and she was there to explore her relationship.

Brendan tried to storm off, but after the group questioned whether the pair were going to leave, he retorted that it didn’t concern them. Privately, Pieper told Brendan she was of course excited to gain more followers from the show, but she alleged she didn’t know that what they had done was “taboo.” She then said she told Brendan she didn’t want to come to Paradise in the first place.

Brendan announced that Pieper was leaving. “This environment, I guess, isn’t where we wanna be at this particular moment,” As Pieper remained completely silent, he revealed his plans to the cast. “I think you all know and I am well aware of, this is the girl I wanna be with, and I feel comfortable in saying that, so I appreciate all you guys, but I’m gonna leave with her and we’re gonna do that on our own terms.”

In the car, Brendan claimed that he didn’t mean to intentionally mislead anyone — he just withheld information.

After the dramatic exit, Tammy Ly tried to get a read on her relationship with Thomas Jacobs following his date with Becca Kufrin. Tammy wanted him in her life outside the show, but he told her he couldn’t see their connection lasting and he felt a more stable bond with Becca. She felt foolish for trusting Thomas after he dumped Tammy on Tammy’s birthday.

Before the rose ceremony, Wells Adams gave a special rose to Natasha, telling her she deserved to stay. Demi, Tammy, Jessenia Cruz and Deandra Kanu were then sent home.

The remainder of the episode featured new arrivals. First up was Lil Jon as the new guest host, followed by Blake Monar with a date card. Blake asked out Tia Booth, leaving James Bonsall discouraged since he had just connected with her. Blake and Tia got along well and it felt like she’d known him for a long time.

Dr. Joe Park then showed up and wanted to take Natasha on a date. The two of them fell in love and began to talk about their pasts with Brendan, his best friend. She knew it was over between them when he told her they didn’t need to rush things and kept expressing his shock over her issues with Brendan.

Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt, meanwhile, told each other they were falling in love. However, Kendall Long, who was trying to form a relationship with Ivan Hall, broke down watching her ex connect with someone else. She was wondering how much longer she could be there while he went on without her.

IWC Launches Pilot's Watches Inspired By U.S. Navy Squadrons

IWC Schaffhausen

IWC has released three ceramic timepieces in the Pilot’s Watches collection. These new models were inspired by and named after timepieces created for US Navy squadrons, such as “Royal Maces,” “Tophatters,” and “Blue Angels.”

IWC Schaffhausen

This is the first time these eye-catching tool watches have been made available to the public. Each model matches a squadron’s color scheme with their respective logos on the dial.

In a press release, Christoph Grainger-Herr, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen, said IWC’s military program “is an important platform for our engineers and designers to exchange ideas with elite pilots from the U.S. Navy and other armed forces around the world.”

“These pilots put our watches to the test every day in the harsh environment of the jet cockpit,” Grainger-Herr continued, “Their feedback is invaluable for us not only to improve the quality and durability of our timepieces but also to create unique and appealing designs.”

Tophatters Edition

IWC Schaffhausen

The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Tophatters” (Ref. IW389108) is tied to Strike Fighter Squadron 14 AKA the “Tophatters.” They’re the Navy’s oldest active squadron (formed in 1919).

The watch case is constructed from black zirconium oxide ceramic and the chronograph pushers and the crown are made from IWC’s own Ceratanium, which the watchmaker describes as “light and robust as titanium and at the same time similarly hard and scratch-resistant like ceramic.” The squadron’s elegant retro top hat patch is at 6 o’clock on the dial and engraved on the back.

Maces Edition

IWC Schaffhausen

The Chronograph Edition “Royal Maces” (Ref. IW389107) pilot’s watch is inspired by Strike Fighter Squadron 27, nicknamed the “Royal Maces.” Like the other watches in this line, it’s made with a black zirconium oxide ceramic case and sports a Ceratanium crown and pushers. The “Maces” is found at the 6 o’clock position

Engraved on the grade 5 titanium case back the squadron’s F/A-18E Super Hornet jet and the official squadron name, “VFA-27.”

Blue Angels

IWC Schaffhausen

The Blue Angels edition (Ref. IW389109) needs no introduction, really. All the design specs are the same as the Maces and Tophatters, and the timepiece comes in the famed U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron’s characteristic blue shade with gold color accents on the calfskin strap and face.

These distinguished new members of the Pilot’s Watches collection all have generous 44.5 mm cases and are powered by IWC’s 69380 automatic movement with 46 hours of power reserve.

Each model is limited to 500 pieces and they retail for approximately $10,900 USD. Order yours at IWC.com.

Former Toronto Raptor Chris Bosh inducted into Basketball Hall of Fame

Nine teams passed on Paul Pierce in the 1998 NBA draft, and if you think he doesn’t remember each and every one of them, then you don’t know Paul Pierce.

The newly inducted basketball Hall of Famer called out by name — in order — the teams with the first nine picks that year and thanked them for allowing him to slip to the Boston Celtics.

“I appreciate that. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with me. It was a great help to me,” Pierce said. Pierce had been expected to be ranked No. In his acceptance speech, Pierce, who was ranked 2nd overall, stated this in Springfield, Massachusetts on Saturday night. “To this very day, I still don’t get how I got to No. 10. You know that everything happened for reasons. Thankful to the Celtics for allowing me to go.

Four months after the pandemic-delayed induction of the Class of 2020, including Kobe Bryant, the Hall community gathered to enshrine 16 more new members — its biggest class ever. Many people in the crowd wore masks. Lauren Jackson (three-time WNBA MVP) was unable to attend due to lockdown in Australia.

Bill Russell, who was first inducted as a professional player in 1975 was honored for his coaching achievements. He is now the fifth person to induct as both a coach or a player. Former President Barack Obama said that his greatest contribution was the work he did off the court during civil rights movements of the 1960s.

Obama spoke out in a video, “Bill Russell, perhaps most than anyone else knows what it means to win, as well as what it takes it to lead.” His legacy and example are far more impressive than Bill Russell, even though he stands tall.

Jay Wright, Villanova coach and defensive Pistons star Ben Wallace were among others inducted into the Hall. Rick Adelman was longtime Sacramento and Washington coach Rick Adelman and Chris Webber, Washington All-Star Chris Webber was also inducted. Yolanda, a two-time Olympic gold-medalist, was also inducted into the Hall.

Val Ackerman, Cotton Fitzsimmons (longtime coach), and Howard Garfinkel, WNBA president, were inducted as contributing members. Clarence “Fats” Jenkins, a member of the Early African American Pioneers Committee was inducted. He stated, “After finally getting to the mountaintop with so many things to do and in my mind so much more work, it all ended.” “I realized that every day is a chance to make the best of it, no matter what. I can turn setbacks into opportunities.

Speeches of inspiration and thanks

Ackerman was the inaugural president of the WNBA, the first female president of USA Basketball and, since 2013, the commissioner of the Big East. She was in search of a female role model in the sports industry, as there were few.

Ackerman stated that Billie Jean King was her role model and that she inspired her to pursue the dream of making sports, on a big stage, possible for all girls in America and around the globe.

Kukoc selected Jerry Reinsdorf, Bulls owner, as his presenters. He also mentioned the tension that arose over his arrival in Chicago in “The Last Dance.”

“I’d like to thank Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan for their support during the Olympics in Barcelona. It was a great motivator to me to continue my pursuit of being an important member of the Chicago Bulls,” Kukoc said.

Wallace spoke poetically and emotionally about his childhood as a large, undersized man who found a place on defense. He was awarded defensive player of year four times.

“Basketball was not my passion. Basketball was only a part of my life. He said, “I took basketball and I made a path for those that helped me.” “I took. I got. I gave back. I laid a track. I made a track. It should have been easy to find, but I was stuck in the track for quite some time.

He raised his fist as he left the stage.

Wright spoke about Philadelphia’s basketball history. Webber shouted out to Detroit. Dandridge claimed that NBA opponents who attended major colleges looked down on him because he was from Norfolk State, which is historically Black.

He stated that his experience at HBCU colleges was more than basketball. “I experienced what it was like to be in class. I saw dignity, and a sense belonging.

Inductees often thanked their family, coaches, and teammates for helping them, but Ackerman also gave credit to James Naismith who invented basketball.

Moore thanked the game.

Moore said that basketball allowed her to travel around the country and to study abroad. “And from shooting in a yard in South Carolina to playing at Madison Square Garden, the most famous arena in the world, I was able to do so with a simple hoop.

“And tonight, having mine name inscribed among the likes of those seated in the hall is indeed fairy tale come true.

Toni Kukoc (Chicago Bulls) and Bob Dandridge (Veterans Committee) were tabbed by International Committee. Pearl Moore was from Women’s Veterans Committee.
